Kirk Voclain, Thriller and Romance Author
Photographer Turned Novelist
For more than forty years, I have made a career out of what most people call a hobby. I am a professional photographer from Houma, Louisiana, known for creating portraits that feel real, honest, and alive. Over the years, photography has taken me around the world, into secure buildings, and behind closed doors. Along the way, I learned a simple truth: a camera opens doors.
That idea eventually became the spark for my debut novel, Double Exposure. Many years ago, an airport security guard pulled me aside because he thought my tripod was a gun. From that moment, I kept wondering, what if a photographer used his gear as a cover for something far more dangerous? Gradually, that question grew into scenes scratched on airplanes, notes between photo sessions, and finally a full story. Today, it lives as a published spy thriller that blends my love of suspense with the real world knowledge only a working photographer would have.
After Double Exposure came out, friends challenged me to write something completely different, a clean love story set in Montana. That challenge became Boots and Stilettos, a romance about grit, heart, and the surprising places love can be found. Writing it stretched me as an author and reminded me why I enjoy storytelling in the first place. It lets me explore the human side of every journey.
I write for readers who enjoy believable characters, crisp pacing, and stories grounded in real life. Whether I am behind a camera or a keyboard, my goal is the same: capture truth, shape emotion, and share stories that stay with people.
