About the Author
Kirk Voclain, Photographer, Author & Novelist
For more than forty years I have made a career out of what most people call a hobby. I am a professional photographer from Houma, Louisiana, known for creating portraits that feel real, honest, and alive. Photography has taken me around the world, into secure buildings, and behind closed doors, and it taught me a powerful truth. A camera opens doors a badge cannot.
The idea for my debut novel Double Exposure was born over three decades ago during a strange moment with airport security. A guard pulled me aside because he thought my tripod was a gun. That experience made me ask a simple question. What if a photographer used his gear as a cover for something far more dangerous. That single thought stayed with me and grew over time. I would jot down scenes on airplanes and outline chapters between photo sessions.
The story changed many times before it found its final shape, but it never stopped calling to me. Today it lives as a published thriller that blends my love of suspense with the real world knowledge only a working photographer would understand.
After Double Exposure was released, friends challenged me to write something completely different. A love story. Not just any love story, it had to be set in Montana and stay clean enough for anyone to read. That challenge became Boots and Stilettos, a story about grit, heart, and the surprising places love can be found. Writing it has pushed me as an author and reminded me why I enjoy storytelling. It lets me explore the human side of every journey.
I write for readers who enjoy believable characters, crisp pacing, and stories that feel grounded in real life. Whether I am behind a camera or behind a keyboard, my goal is the same. Capture truth, shape emotion, and share stories that stay with people.

CODE IN THE GRAIN
A quick, twisty read. Only fifteen pages. You can read it in under 30 minutes. It was written for a contest with two rules: make the reader scratch their head in wonder, and the author has to wake up inside his own novel. I had a blast with it. You might too. Grab it now for a quick read. If it lands for you, a short honest review helps a ton. Thank you.
I genuinely loved this story a lot.
The way it introduced me to photography world and how it in itself is a powerful tool… Its truly wonderful reading it.
