Getting in the Zone: My Writing Prep Routine

Getting in the Zone: My Writing Prep Routine

Finding the Right Mindset

Writer’s block, do you have it? Have you ever sat down to write, only to find your brain has gone on vacation without leaving a forwarding address? The elusive writer’s block strikes again! But fear not, for I have a few tricks up my sleeve to summon those creative juices like a magician conjuring rabbits from hats.

The Art of Preparation

Before I dive into the writing process, I focus on creating the perfect atmosphere. I start by decluttering my workspace, because let’s be honest, a messy desk is a one-way ticket to distraction city. I light a scented candle (not really, but may that sounded so good, hahahaha), crank up some beats, and brew a pot of coffee strong enough to wake the neighbors! I want my coffee so strong when I stop stirring the spoon stands up in the coffee all by itself.

Thinking It Through

Once the scene is set, it’s time for my secret weapon: brainstorming like a boss. I jot down every idea that pops into my head, no matter how ridiculous it may seem. This is the wild west of thoughts and every cowboy deserves a sidekick, so I enlist my trusty notebook. I write down any snippets of ideas or phrases that feel like magic. This chaos often leads to that lightning bolt of inspiration I need to write something new.

Ultimately, getting into the right mindset is all about trial and error. Every writer has their unique ritual, whether it’s sipping tea (yuck), taking a brisk walk, or channeling their inner Shakespeare through interpretive dance (haha I have done that, just imagine that in your mind). Either way, find what works for you and embrace it!
