What readers are saying about Boots and Stilettos. I’m going to be honest, seeing reader reactions to Boots and Stilettos never gets old. I wrote this story with heart, grit, and that slow-burn tension I love, then I hit publish and crossed my fingers like every author does.
And then the reviews started coming in.
Some readers fell for the Montana setting. Some loved the clean romance and the culture clash. Some told me they didn’t expect to get emotional, then… well… they did. That kind of feedback is fuel. The good kind.

Boots and Stilettos by Kirk Voclain is a wonderful western romance story. I have never been to Montana, but it just moved way up my bucket list. The author has painted a wonderful world of star-filled night skies, early morning amber waves of sprawling valleys, and air so clean you can get a natural high. Not to mention one of the most tense romantic dramas between Jack and Annie that even drives his dog Blue crazy. It’s like you can hear Blue barking at Jake, “Just kiss the girl already! What’s wrong with you people?” This novel is heart-warming, electric, and hard to put down. If you’re looking for next-level Hallmark storytelling, this is it!

“Boots and Stilettos” is a humorous, suspenseful, and thoroughly enjoyable read. The characters bring a great blend of charm and tension, even if their stubborn streaks—especially Jake’s—left me feeling a bit frustrated at times. Still, that push-and-pull dynamic added depth and kept the story engaging. The balance between their hardheaded moments and eventual willingness to bend made the journey feel authentic and rewarding. Overall, it’s an entertaining and satisfying read I genuinely enjoyed.

Review #3 – 5 Stars
Boots and Stilettos surprised me in all the best ways. I picked it up expecting a fun opposites-attract romance, but it turned into a story with a lot more depth, heart, and tension than I expected.
Annie is such a compelling heroine — determined, smart, and so much more than her family name. Watching her arrive in Montana as a polished Italian heiress and slowly transform into someone who understands the land, the people, and the business felt so rewarding. Her Western Luxe idea (the Sky Cabins, the Starlight Suppers, the deposit-first business model) actually made sense — I loved that her competence wasn’t just lip service. She rolls up her sleeves and earns every bit of respect she gets.
Jake is the classic quiet cowboy with a guarded smile and a stubborn streak a mile wide, but his loyalty to his ranch, his horse Spike, and his cattle dog Blue gives him so much depth. He doesn’t want help — but he can’t deny Annie’s grit, and watching him thaw toward her was genuinely sweet.
The ranch problems — the storm damage, the bank review, and the constant pressure of dwindling cash — kept the stakes high. Add in Annie’s demanding father and a too-perfect ex trying to pull her back into a life that looks polished but feels like a trap, and you’ve got a story that keeps you turning pages.
The romance is slow-burn in the best way — full of chemistry without needing explicit scenes. It’s more about trust, partnership, and building something real. The community plays a wonderful role too; those small-town moments made the ranch feel like home.
By the time the ending arrived, I was cheering for them — not only as a couple, but as two people choosing the life they want instead of the life others expect.
If you love Western romance with heart, competence, and a true happily ever after, Boots and Stilettos is absolutely worth reading. A story about love that works as hard as the people living it.

Review #4 – 5 Stars
It took me a good while to read Boots and Stilettos, not because it was tedious and hard to get through. I didn’t want to rush through it. I wanted to take the time to pay attention to all of the details so beautifully expressed. To me, it is like a poem to be savored. The words depicting the scenes are amazingly sharp, clear, concise, like a painter that can make a scene come alive with a few brush strokes, yet that scene is perfect. You can see, smell, hear, and feel everything that was happening, without it being pedantic and long winded. I didn’t want my experience in Montana to end too quickly. There are characters you love, others will irritate you, and still some you want to kick to the curb.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend. I am looking forward to the next book!
(If you haven’t read Kirk’s other books, take a look at those as well. Terrific spy adventures!)

As a longtime admirer of Kirk’s photography, his venture into the writing world is no surprise . To be known as a good photographer, you have to be able to create a story with your lens. Kirk has done the same thing with the written word …to be able to identify the theme, focus on the characters and creatively paint a picture with words, is exactly what he has done with BOOTS and STILLETOS. I’d love to see these characters “Jake and Annie” on the big screen. Everybody loves a movie with horses and romance. I for one am a forever fan. Read this book!!!
